What do you find most annoying about your TV news?

Got a call from Jim a little while ago. He wanted to complain about the music -- he described it as "techno," which is as good as anything -- that KKTV plays under its national news update during the 4:30 news. Jim thought it was distracting and inappropriate for the more serious stories.

Which had me thinking, there's something about local TV news that drives each of us crazy, albeit probably not the same thing. Sure, we keep watching, but if Lisa Lyden would just do this, or Jon Karroll would just do that, our viewing experience would be immesureably improved.

So what leetle tiny thing would you change about our local news if you had the power?

Actual newsworthiness.

I don't watch channel 13 news but what is really annoying to me is when the run the crawl on the bottom of the screen. It squashes the picture. It wouldn't be so bad if they could figure out how to do it like channels 5 & 30. It runs but the picture is normal.

Oh geez. For starters, KOAA squeezes back their screen most of the time make it significantly smaller. Second, every station in this market used to run normal crawls that ran over the screen, covering up some of the picture... and you people complained. So they invested in technology that would allow them to sqeeze back the picture, shrinking it slightly, but insuring no video would be covered up. I don't think anything will make you people happy.

I wish News 13 would just stop using Gari Communations "Image News" music package for their bumpers while they use the "Pinnacle" package from rival Stephen Arnold Music in their evening newscasts. At least their using Pinnacle all the way during their morning newscast

If they love Gari so much then get "The World At Home" package during the newscasts and not just for the promos since they are using "The World At Home" as that slogan. KRDO has truly warn out Gari's "Image News" and its time for them to drop it. It has been in use for 10 years and its no "Move Closer To The World" which was been used on WPVI-TV for many years. I just don't know what KRDO sees in it. On the other hand KUSA-TV in Denver has used the same news package since they became an NBC affilate but it still works for them

KOAA-TV felt it was time to change their news package which they had on for eight years ("Broadcast News" from Non-Stop Music) and when with 615 Music's "The Tower" which was created for NBC affilates since it uses the NBC musical logo.

That it's very cheaply produced and I understand we're in a small market, but C'mon!

And that's it's not in HiDef, which of course goes back to the first point.

I find the new 'in the field' female reporter on KOAA's morning news to be very annoying. I've watched KOAA every morning for eight years and have found several of the reporters grating, but this new one may be the one that makes me jump ship to another channel.

She's very, very unpolished and literally makes me cringe.

I know everyone has to start somewhere, but she's not getting any better!

Two thing that bug me:

1: Useless remote broadcasts such as when they have a reporter stand in fron of the Police Operations Center at 10:00 PM talking about something that happened that afternoon. Pure gimmick.

2: Useless advice such as when they have a short news story followed by a list of "hints" on how to deal with the issue in the story. For example, the story is "Someone stubbed their toe today". Then there is a list on how to avoid stubbing your toe: "Don't get out of bed", Walk on your hands", etc. I want news, not advice!

omagosh, Mike Daniels get a copy of GQ already! Your ties are the most hidious rags on t.v. Please wardrobe department at koaa, give poor Mike some kind of tie allowance so we can pay more attention to his mistakes in predicting the weather rather that his gosh-aweful attire!
