KRDO going full HD

I haven't been home to verify this myself, but KRDO news director Dave Rose says the station should be broadcasting all of ABC's HD programming now, or by tomorrow if they're not. KRDO has been broadcasting in high def since January, but only the programs ABC sent live in HD, like sports and awards shows and such. Now, they'll be able to do ABC's full primetime programming and other stuff that's delayed for the Mountain time zone.

Meanwhile, NBC affiliate KOAA/Channels 5&30 has crews up on the mountain every day working on their HD transmitter. They're still shooting for being on the air July 1 (they need another extension from the FCC if they aren't).

UPDATE: Well, GMA definitely wasn't in HD this morning, although it was in low-def 16-9 on 13-2 for some reason, so we'll see what's going on in prime time. I can't say I care too much until "Lost" begins in the fall, but it's nice to see the stations making progress.

I believe WB 2 out of Denver, which is our WB affiliate - They'll be CW, right - is broadcasting in HD. Any chance of us getting that HD feed in the Springs?

Great news on KRDO and KOAA (I hope).

However with KXTU-LP becoming The CW affilate in the CS market expect KWGN to be blacked out so that KXTU gets the glory.

Regarding KRDO, now I am hoping that their newscast will get better.

I am also hoping that News Press Gazette will change the 13 font. The 13 font has been around since 1980, and even though the logo changed in the 1990's the font did not.

Please NPG change the 13 font. KRDO needs to move forward and Pikes Peak Broadcasting/Harry & Patti Hoth held back KRDO's pontical for YEARS!!!!

Hasn't KOAA been working on this since the Olympics (and before)?

Come on guys...

I talked to Ian at KTSC a couple weeks ago -- they were still fiddling, didn't sound too close. KOAA has the antenna on the tower, I guess, so they're getting pretty close to the testing phase.

Don's right about the CW and KXTU -- they won't be HD for at least two years, and we won't get WB2 programming anymore.

As for KRDO, the NP&G has plans to rebrand the station "News 13," so I'd expect a logo redesign is in order (and let's hope for some fresh paint around the studio, too).

You mean we won't get CW2 programming anymore :-)

Well KRDO-TV has been branded as News 13 for quite awhile. You don't see the the Blue Square 13 logo which was used in their generic station logo. You saw the Brown Colors that was used with the News 13 version of the logo. I still would like to see a new 13 font still. Maybe they could use the 13 font that WTHR in Indianapolis has used for years.

In any case I want to see the 1980 font go into history. Just does not age well like the 11 and 5/30 logos, nor the 9News Denver logo.

If a decent graphics design company got it's hands on the font I think they could make it look good, but I would expect that font, that logo, and that branding to be good as gone by November sweeps.

Should be fun to watch a station that's been stagnant for so long finally get a chance to pull itself up and out of the 1980's.

I tend to agree, some logos like the 11 and 5/30 logos can be used for ages along with the 9 font used by KUSA, KWTV, and seveal other stations including a sister station of KOAA but its a six instead of a nine.

I really think it is time to retire the 13 font, I lasted longer than the one they used in the late 1970's. At least they knew they had to change the font for KJCT in Grand Junction when the digtielism improved with time.

As of Sunday night (6/25) KRDO was still not broadcasting delayed programming in HD on 13-1 - at least for the 30 seconds of Desperate Housewives that I saw.

KRDO & KOAA continue to disappoint month after month after . . .
