KRDO unveils new stations, new look
I knew KRDO would be taking the wraps off of its 1240 AM/105.5 FM news duopoly this morning, but I wasn't sure they'd be launching the new look on the TV side of things.
I like the Pikes Peak backdrop -- Zach and Kellie are still stuck behind the same old desk, but it set looks a decade more modern without that nasty orange everywhere. Nice of Zach and Marty to wear blue this morning to coordinate the color scheme.
The"News Channel 13" bug in the corner looks like somebody drew it with an Etch-A-Sketch, though.
And they seem to have killed the news crawl that's become a standard part of the morning news package. I have mixed feelings about that. Maybe KKTV's election results snafu convinced them to give it the heave-ho.
Weigh in with comments on the look, the radio station, or explanations of why we now have one 4:30 p.m. newscast and two more at 5 p.m. when no one I know gets home from work before 6:30.
UPDATE: And, in response to comment #1, they said the new Web site would be up later today. Agreed that it's much-needed.
UPDATED UPDATE: In response to comment #13, on the drive home, Dan Cochell and Mike Lewis were saying the Web site will be unveiled later this week. It's supposed to be underpromise and overdeliver, guys.

Now that Tony Bruno and Sporting News Radio is no longer a part of 1240 AM I won't be listening.
I like the new look, HOWEVER, they need to get a new 'voice' of News Channel 13. They are not there yet, still more work needs to be done.
I agree with you on the early local newscasts. I have another complaint about local news, though.
I Tivo the NBC Nightly News and NewsFirst at 6pm. Why, why, WHY doesn't 5/30 lead their newscast (most of the time) with national news? They follow the national news! Argh. This really irks me.

Regarding the News Crawl I tapped the newscast starting at 5AM. It was up for a few seconds then it was gone. I think they want to keep a newsticker but only when it matches up with the new graphics and fonts. The Ticker did not match up.
Zach and Kellie have said their are more changes comming. I think the Newsdesk and changes in the backdrop are comming. They tapped a timelasp of the KRDO-TV crew making changes to the set. Time was on their side to put up the Pikes Peak back drop.
Maybe the Etch-A-Sketch logo is not all that great but still better than the old 13 logo the Hoth's loved so much since its use going back to the early 80's. I glad to see the old 13 font go.
News Press & Gazette is truly taking KRDO-TV into the 21st Century at least for a market like Colorado Springs. The Newschannel 105.5/1240 will also help give this station an edge in this market. Can the radio side give KVOR a run for the money...We Shall See.
The ticker will return in the mornings. It was an oversight in the changeover and its color will also be changed.
KRDO's former announcer apparently died last weekend. I don't know too many details, but apparently he lived in New York and sent his voice work via the web or e-mail.
Anyone know why in the world the news is on at 5pm... No one I know that works gets home at 5pm - that's just when we leave the office... :)
I like the approach to the news talk. It's people without all the loud jingles under their voice. Good luck to the radio side
yes i look at the news set,, great after all these years and i told the office girl@krdotv then to clean the dirty set because it not clean whew.. but..it needs new studio cameras such as h-def ikegamis/ and s.n.g fast truck like koaa-tv, but koaa-tv has a problem with those old ikegami hk-343 tv cams. sucks!!do like hi -def 9news does..get new sony hi defs, geeez..
It is now Mon.8/14 and it's 6:48pm, and the News channel 13 website has still not changed! Why am I not surprised!!!
I listened to the new talk stations quite a bit today (as much as I could) and really like the format. I wish they would have a local news update on the hour, but maybe that's coming. And I'm such a news junkie I really long for that, maybe others don't :)
So good deal, here's to new competition for the sucky KVOR. May they die the death they have deserved for so long.
I also like the new set at KRDO-TV. And I *really* like the new graphics. This is an overall major improvement in the Springs' news media. I'm a happy camper!
did i hear ,mr joe ferdani of the old news 13 with jon karroll and the old cimmirron bridge. he was working for the adams county school district..on newschannel 13 at5pm interesting..

the set sucks bigg time, krdotv pikepeaktv. they should have called the set deisgners from entertaiment tonight to do a better job and tear down the old waffle house.. IM SURPRISED. is like that all that they can do with d rose gang..saame krdo tv nothing changes ..
tv set is lame!.. and krdotv and np@g has a lot of money.why cant they go all out.im mean np@g has the money. this is cosmetic for 12 years..im mean im going to kktv or koaa and watch whew boy!!even a child 6yrs old could doo better..

With that level of intelligence, are you sure you should be watching TV? If your drool gets inside the set, and shorts out a capacitor, well it could get ugly...

Hey some things take time, and with changes their will be cliches, and still the Ticker is not up during Good Morning Colorado.
tv set still sucks.. krdotv can do better now cmon...i know itll take time but im and the other should agree.they expected better .but got nothing!!
tear down the old waffle house on 8th street. to set up a better tv news set oh by the way..kxrm fox 21 news is no more from raycom .. now its barrington broadcasting.. boy this tv market is getting HOT..
now.i hope that the new fox 21 will have a better set than ugh news 13 ..BY FAR!they will show them better..

It is better than nothing. In fact I thought they would change the set, but if you want an extreme makeover you have to deal with a temp set that can suck. Granted KKTV's temp set was good.
I think you will see a different anchor desk soon, and maybe a new weather set as well.

thanks don for that..i guess that np@g is doing a great job there..but that .. waffle house is just bad you know right next door.i heard a rumor back from my bro that kktv was going to move to..colorado square and setup there right..also when does comcast do something with kcnc channel 4 audio seems kind of low?.. and also channel 2 kusa..called comcast and nothing happends duh..i like krdo tv and the people but sometimes these other anonmymuses are somthing else i bring my thought on this blog .if these people dont like it they can read something else.this is a free blog ..until some one comes up and ruin it for me or maybe others..
The new website for KRDO T-V and Radio is up and running! It looks pretty good, but more is needed!
Website is MUCHO improved - but still see a few technical tweaks needed on interior pages...
Much better than the old site which I bet they hadn't revamped in a while.

where??? ant get a chopper they cant afford the last time krdotv-13 had a chopper was in the 1980s with pat madden and keith mccord as with st francis /penrose..that flopped. oh the news site newschannel 13 looking great!!.NAHH they just have 2 little live units and no sat truck ..first, krdo tv buy the sat truck then ill believe it..
koaatv might get a second s.n.g unit soon .take for example:ksl tv salt lake city about what 39th tv dma has two s.ng trucks! and a chopper..were 92 nd d.m.a oh boy .. and what davenport-quad cities wqad-tv has a mobile s.n.g "newsroom"hmm interesting but no chopper.i still like csprings..ill see it to believe it with this chopper..
that will beats koaa-tv 5/30 tv traffic with mr antwon glover used to be from krdo tv. using a piper flying around the area why cant they get a f.l.i.r unit and transmitt down to koaatv studios. man colorado springs d.ma market sucks..
