Coming this week

Tuesday's TV Talk includes reviews of CBS' "Smith" (starring Ray Liotta, shown), NBC's "Kidnapped" and CBS' "Jericho."

On Thursday, you'll find reviews for CBS' "Shark" and ABC's "Six Degrees."

I predict that by a week from Wednesday, we'll have a winner of our Dead Pool.

My predictions: Six Degrees, Men in Trees and The Class will be early losers.

A few random thoughts floating around in my head:
I always say I'll give all the new shows a chance to find their feet, but I do tend to decide pretty early about what I'm going to stick with.
"Men in Trees" is OK, I guess, but it will never, ever escape the shadow of "Northern Exposure" - even if Morty the Moose comes back from the dead for a cameo appearance. I'd give it a B minus.
"The Class" reminded me of a high school production. This will be the time slot during which I do dishes so I can settle in to watch shows that come on later. C minus.
On the strength of its first episode, "Studio 60" will be one of my favorites. I had qualms about Aaron Sorkin - I got really tired of watching people trot down hallways, tossing conversations over their shoulders on "The West Wing" and "Sports Night."
But this was intelligent writing and a compelling cast (I predict Emmy noms). You know the writers and actors have done a great job when you realize you're thinking about those characters even when the show's over. I couldn't look away from the TV while it was on. I give it an A - and let's hope the quality continues at this level through the season.

I watched the first episode of "Studio 60" on tivo last night... I REALLY like it, but then again I also really liked "Sports Night" and "The West Wing"...

This is one that's staying on our list - based on the first episode anyway...

Studio 60 has too many insider references to stay entertaining.
