Updates
MyKKTV will add the local 6:30 p.m. newscast and the rest of its syndicated programming on Monday. No word on when the primetime programming will be updated to HD, but that's still the plan.
They're trying to get the new weather channel onto Comcast, but no word on a channel assignment yet. KKTV also plans to add live reports and updates, just like KOAA does on WeatherFirst Now.
Let's see, a few new faces to come at KRDO/Channel 13. Notably, morning meteorologist Marty Ventincinque is going on paternity leave for a couple weeks (congrats, Marty), so John Keyes from sister station KJCT/Channel 8 will be filling in. Shortly after Marty returns, the new weekend weather guy will show up, Ben Legg. At about the same time, they'll add a reporter, too: Anna Jensen. KRDO plans to add a fourth weather guy in 2007, too.
KOAA has a new reporter coming, too, but haven't gotten the name.
And I'm off on a float trip over the weekend, so no updates until Monday.

oh well, i guess i didnt get the job at krdo tv..i put in my resume at that krdo tv offices and lo and behold its another crummy out of state personality..geez.. cant the locals around here hire locally instead from some city??or state.. hmm.. interesting.. im surprised again.. krdo, kk and koaa.. theres local people here that can do a great job here.. its again another slap in the face again..local tv viewers like me..sheez
and ..also kxrm tv.. too, sorry i forgot to put..it in, but that what i think there..but these "tv stations" kind of irks me..to serve the local tv public..fcc statement.. sorry.. wrong!lets get more local people ok. geez..

Has anyone heard who they might have hired for weather on the MyKKTV side? They were advertising for a spot there or did they just put the KKTV folks in for more work.
i wish that local weather people get the chance to work at kk..not out of state..then ill watch it they are running on adelphia.ch141 just weather..ill watch weather first now..
especially, i go to to penrose library and get me a good book to read or the newspapers..this so-called tv media "wars" is going to heat up soon.. so i go to my computer or walk or bike..its going to be something else watch out koaa-tv ..i dont like koaa tv with that mda telethon deal without lisa lyden.. i called koaa and they told me this.."they " dont have the money to adequtely staff a pueblo market. thats the truth.. people.. now if im Pueblo or canon city or lajunta and i have to drive 60-70 miles one way..geez..just for a lousy pledge..i hope that next year will be changed if enough people called in for koaa tv, then ..
You can't hire local reporters or on air talent, pulling them from other stations in the market because most of them have contracts that include non-compete clauses. This means talent can't walk across the street and work for another station. This is why news directors hire people from outside the market.
To the poster complaining about the MDA Telethon....for the 41 years that it's been on, there have been "phone numbers" that you can call to pledge...you don't have to drive to place where the telethon is taking place....welcome to 2006!
hey i know .. that!but to me it doesnt make any sense..its like this gentleman runs down from pueblo..right and he takes his money from pueblo to the doubletree..thank god that they had a guard there for that sum of money..its a waste of time for this big tv station in pueblo..they should have done this at the pueblo mall.i wonder how many pueblo or southern colorado gt people read this blog and can come up with a better idea for this problem.. i Think and i hope others can come up to koaa and the station people .that pueblo people and southern colorado are "meaning ful " to koaa not just having a cookie from the doubletree..they koaa-tv used to have the telethon in the citadel or chapel hills mall with all that people.. o.k i do repsect your opinion..but with a "big" tv station like koaa and m.da. i think the people of pueblo and souhtern colorado should more included or am i wrong?? im surprized again..i donated to this cause too.
and also the tv station fron another blog ..the tv stations here can hire locally from pikes peak community journalism class with former tv kktv wendy macdonald who is teacher ..there you see they..can hire locally. not just from some other city or myself ..we have lot of alent here.. im just surprised that the tv stations just dont care or have have this or degree,, geez..it just a "good o boy" network
It's less about how good you really are and more about how they might think you'll improve their ratings.
also lets look at the "local tv talent" we have here..mr terry gerb.. he local tv weather tv talent.. yes, working from kktv and krdotv for what 13years almost.. would the people locally want some one form another tv market let say alabama .replace him?? no if i was the news director of fox21 news..and with the weather guy like mike daniels.. would you replace him with a guy far far away in mobile ,ala ..like alan sealls that has no local connection.. i think not, it silly to thin about it though..
sorry for my poor typing..but what i saying is that the tv stations should look into hiring local people that can do the job..not to be picky..thanks..
and lets look at comcast..mike boyle resturaunt show and sandy mann show .. which is great..theyre produced local.. i did a couple of tv documentries on wine making to local city county issues and into working gold mine.i give them credit and i watch them..i didnt have to go over the heads of these news directors of these tv stations or to get a degree fot christ sake .. i should maybe.. it the "local"people that im worried about . i went to work at another company.. instead tv photography/reporting and i dont need a "degree" .i have relevant experience here.im surprised ..

well, i didnt get the "job"..at that lousy "wal-mart" in monument,co also..they said, " there gaps in my app"..so.. ill try at giving my resumes to a couple of tv stations in nebraska or western slope .. but then again. those tv stations.. will probably be discrimanating.. towards me though.. its very hard to be an reporter or tv videographer here. i have to have this.. right and i have to have that right ..ughh. mini d.v tapes ,more resumes..ughh
update...i just "learned " that a local nbc tv station has put in..a weekend tv sports anchor position .. in the G.T sunday paper in the employment page today HMMM????interesting..but i dont have two year experience??i guess.but thats interesting i wonder what happened?? no out of townies reporters/videographers....hmm, interetsing! now?? if i have the chance..,and my resume and mini dv tape ..what is my chances to be..hired at that tv station??..hmm?? great idea! nbc tv station..keep up the good work!! but find REAL local tv talent which .i am ..and the others tv stations like kxrm or krdo or kk. cool
KKTV's HD channel doesn't care too much about Tennis fans.
Tonight - trying to watch the men's final - the Thunderstorm Warning for PUEBLO (really Rye) was up for OVER 20 MINS - changing my lovely HD in to regular TV so they could broadcast that lovely little footer... During the final set of the match.
Someone set it up and forget to turn it off perhaps?
the master control operator went to get a whopper or a tacho bell taco maybe and left it onn??

Sorry your applications at the local stations are going unnoticed. However, it takes more than knowledge of the viewing area to be considered a qualified applicant. Another essential requirement is being able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively. Not to offend, but your misspelled, incorrectly punctuated, and uncapitalized, incoherent ramblings would immediately disqualify you from consideration by even the most inexperienced and sympathetic news director. An appealing appearance, solid grasp of the English language, polished delivery, and experience in another market will always win out over a long-time local resident simply interested in presenting on the local news. That's just the way of the world. It may not be "right" in your mind, but it's what wins viewers.
You should check out the bio pages for the local stations. You may be surprised to find out how many of the local personalities are Colorado natives. Not Colorado Springs or Pueblo per se, but still from Colorado. In most people's minds, that makes them "locals."

also one more thing.. i didnt went to 4 yr"school". i coundt afford it ..i have degree in electronics and also i have 1-2 years experience with ikegami, hitachi, sony and jvc 3-ccd top -of the line tv cameras e.ng./e.fp for 30,000 a pop.. lets look at kjct-tv 8 ..in their hire page ..they wants just a "tv photog"..just that have to have a "college degree"..hmm interesting . im also a free-lance tv cameraman. i dont think that "kjct" will hire me based on this?? . i wouldnt have a prayer..again im sorry for my punct..i think that ive would have a shot at being a tv camera man either studio or e.n.g here right. nope ..i would be the best tv camera man..in this "market" if the tv station would look objectivily..but noo .. nope..we got to hire the "BEST!!if they let me try!!!

again.. i say that the local tv media..is great .but there are some undelying problems ..like kxrm and kk and krdo tv should hire "local":' tv people. not just out of townies like michelle martin, but local people from uccs or ppcc college. now i dont know how that works..im not..from out of town here .i live here for 30 years and i dont wish to offend anyone! i love to make friends and not enemies. but that the impression that i have here in this colorado springs tv market and this blog. i have relevant experiences with e.n.g /e.f.p.tv equipment tv studio or otherwise and i do have a college degree.. i bet if they would try me . i be even better than the others..im just "glad" that koaa tv is seems to hire locals.. thats GREAT! but these tv stations must do more!!..i hate to get on a soap box..

Hi everyone... I am sorry you think I am boring in the morning. I usually am a little more animated and lively in the morning... but I have been told to not be that anymore. Do you want to offer your reasons why I am not good? I realize that it is tough to be like Marty especially when I have little experience with the format and people here. Things are a little different in Junction than here. Maybe if I was here longer... it might be a bit easier for me to fit in. BTW... I am only staying a week now. Someone else from KJCT will bere next week.
Why you're not "Good."
1) It's obvious that your grasp on the english language is weak at best. It also appears that someone has either stolen your shift key, or you're retarded.
2) Blamming Andy for our comments is not going to get you any sympathy. Anyone is allowed to post comments. If Andy deems them too harsh, then he can censor them if he wishes.

First time blogger here. This is entertaining. How many sources for the weather are there. There are the local TV and radio stations, the newspaper, your computer, the weather channel (adelphia ch.61) and you can even look out the window.
If you have been a long time Colorado Springs resident then the weather shouldn't be such a mystery. When I do watch weather reports I want to be informed and not so much entertained.
It is my personal observation that the local news programs are more apt to report events in and around the city rather than getting out there and finding some news. Often the local news shows start out with what is being reported on the major news networks. This seems to negate what the local news programming should be reporting. I can understand if it is a major news story that affects a large segment of the population, but when it is just a near verbaitim repeat of a CNN, MSNBC or FOX news story then again the local news programs have failed.
As for who stations hire I would think the most qualified are being hired and that is the goal of every employer. A videographer is one position that I would think might stand a chance of free-lancing and selling his skills and talent to many media outlets. Maybe I'll drop back in and see what, if any, responses my thoughts generate. Thanks-Fred
Hi fred, thanks for coming by. well i think i know what the guy is saying. That the local stations is not being serious of hiring local or handi-capable people to do the jobs in tv media. I agree with him. but some people here just dont want to hear about it. look at person calling names at him. I just wouldnt care to look at this blog here. Ill just read a good book and shut off the tv or the computer. they even probably know the address and really cuss him on this blog because he trying express an opinion just like you and me. Some people here just let it go or mock him. I wish it would stop! This blog just have too much bad fellings toward handi-capable people. Why do this i dont know.I guess they are sick or demented anyway. We have too many tv channels like weather first now to my kktv. Thanks fred and good luck as a blogger.
