Sno' fun at KKTV

Man, KK just got nailed, didn't they? Main transmitter down, backup transmitter down, power out at the studio, fire at the studio when the power came back up.

"It was a bad day in paradise," said Charlie Peterson, KKTV's general manager.

They finally got the signal back over the air just past noon today, once the roads were clear and their engineer could get up on the mountain to reboot the transmitter.

KKTV was able to get its signal out to Adelphia and Dish Network even when they were off the air. KK's digital transmitter stayed up, too, so everyone with high def TV's could see them fine.

“We had the worst luck imaginable in that both sites went down at the same time, the transmitter site and our studio site,” Peterson said. “When you’ve got both going down, you just don’t have a leg to stand on. It was one of those days.”

It seemed like the others came through in better shape. KXRM got bumped off a couple times and the generator kicked on. KOAA says they hardly had a blip. I didn't see KRDO have any problems.

So, we'll give KKTV a pass because they were off the air half the day -- who do you think had the best storm coverage and who had the most problems?

Funny you should ask! I wrote about it in my blog (http://elithemadman.blogspot.com/) this very morning!

I was without power all day yesterday, so was listening to the news broadcasts on my radio.

KOAA had very good coverage for a radio listener. KRDO relied on 'check our website' a lot. Yes, I know that makes sense, but not when you don't have power!

We have Direct TV. So why didn't the Direct TV subscribers get the station if Dish and Adelphia customers did?

I guess Dish was able to pick up KK's digital signal at their satellite center up in Castle Rock and downconvert it for transmission. DirecTV either couldn't or couldn't be bothered.

Sounds like some "disaster planning" is in order... No generator?

I have Dish, and all I got from KK was color bars with "KKTV PLEASE STAND BY" in the middle of the bars. I believe those bars come from Dish and not KK. So, whoever said they were on Dish, they were wrong.

Myself being an anonymous idiot, I must disagree with the aforementioned idiot.

KOAA had more reporters out in the field giving updates throughout the morning and day than anyone else. They also had the best pictures.

I'm guessing the prior idiot is from KKTV.

Sour grapes, man, sour grapes.

oops! :0

This is anonymous idiot #2 again.

I misread anonymous idiot #1's post.

So, I admit, I am the bigger anonymous idiot.

My apologies #1.

I thought 5/30, had the best coverage. They had at least 4 live shots all the time that I watched, Krdo was good too. KKTV, for get about it. I think somone said on newsblab, that they are on the air for every Flash Flood watch, but when the crap hits the fan they go out.

I tried to watch all the channels for the 5:00p.m. and 6:00p.m. and I still think 5/30 had the best coverage, best stories and they also had all the new people out too. I was really hoping that Fox21 would have broke in and used the live truck they have, if they have one, and came on.
