K-ville

The first new scripted drama of the fall season premieres tonight at 8, Fox's ambitious, formulaic, deeply disappointing "K-Ville."

It's a show that's got so much rich material to work with - specifically star Anthony Anderson and its location in New Orleans - that the producers seem to have thought producing an original script was superfluous.

I won't even bother with the plot: It's a cop show so old-fashioned it makes "Starsky and Hutch" look daring.
New Orleans, however, looks amazing. The city just oozes tension and character and drama. And then the show smothers it.

Fox should have taken a bag of money the size of Louisiana down to David Milch and gotten him to do this thing right. The amount of wasted potential here is breathtaking. Once this thing gets canceled, HBO should pay Fox $1 for it and start over from scratch. There's a dynamite story here dying to get out.

I won't be as down about K-Ville as you were, but I will say I was expecting more.

After all this is the pilot (which means it should have come out like gangbusters, and didn't) - but it also has to set the stage for character development. And that it did in spades. Anderson's Boulet has to deal with an ex-partner who bailed on him in the heat of the hurricane (which did happen in real life); a wife and child that can't stay in their old house (for various reasons) - the sccene with the fire hose into the house was interesting; and now he has to deal with a new partner (Hauser's Cobb) who really isn't who he says he is.

I think this show, given more then 3 episodes, will get better. At least I hope so... 'cuz I really like Anderson and Hauser as a team.

What about Prison Break? Absurd? Absolutely. Fun? Absolutely! I can't believe they managed to keep this show going for 3 seasons, but last nights premiere was really good. 'Specially if you've been watching it from the get go (like my wife and I). At least for a popcorn, turn your mind off kinda show! ;)

It was a bit formulaic, but I turned over from Monday Night Football to watch it. Speak of which, the ESPN crew is not as good as the old Monday Night Football crew.

...i tried to watch about 15 minutes of the k-ville...had to change the channel...way too predictable...kinda reminded me of the old x-files, waiting for something exciting to happen, then it flops...guess thsts why i like the soprano's...you knew something weird and or exciting was going to happen...this k-ville has much to be desired...
