Way to go, Charlie

I didn't bother to watch the Democratic debate last night - 'cause I ran out of patience with those like, 15 debates ago - but the amount of vitriol getting heaped on ABC's Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos makes me wish I did.

I linked to one of the few reviews that didn't include swear words.

Funny - although probably more funny if you're not an Obama supporter.

I wish I'd stuck around for the booing. Watched about an hour of it.

The editor+publisher story you linked was just about right, though Tom Shales (as usual) was over-the-top at its conclusion.

Both candidates seemed to try to work most questions toward legitimate issues or to rise above the "gaffe" talk, but the moderators persisted. The entire debate suffered for it.

I don't see why a debate is all that hard to run. Talk about the issues, try to get the candidates to provide specifics instead of platitudes, briefly address whatever ginned-up controversy the other side is pushing and say goodnight. Why's that so difficult?

That's because the networks and the cablers are in the "gotta business" which translates into ratings. The thousands of negative comments sent to the ABC News website alone show viewers wanted questions about issues, not questions about gaffs.
