KKLI wins Crystal radio award

KKLI (106.3 FM) was one of 10 winners nationally of the National Association of Broadcasters' Crystal Radio Award, which is given for outstanding public service. Sort of a big deal.

KKLI? Is this the same sleepy radio station that play Christmas music during the holidays? What exactly did they do do earn this award? I've never seen KKLI do any kind of community service other than the Christmas music. Please do tell!!

Yes, I agree. KRDO or KVOR seems to be a better fit for a community service award. This seems like a payoff of some sort. Andy, anything to add?

You know, they give these awards to the people who apply. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If you know the formula for submitting the application, and the right inclusions then you'll be the Station of the Year for the next umpteen years :-)

Number one, KVOR does nothing for the community except produce and spew hate. Have you listened to their lineup? Richard Randall is the local hate monger who preahces for the downfall of our President. His hot and biased emotions play too much of a part in their unfair and unbalanced venue. And then you have a national lineup of hate mongers who will not accept the goodness that the new President is doing for our country.
Number two, KRDO does nothing for the community except make up news and focus on what they make up. The station is owned by out of towners who could care less about what we are about and the current staff are made up of sensationalists and self centered individuals. Why would they deserve anything community related?

While a little broad, the complaints about KVOR and KRDO have some degree of truth. It is a more a reflection of the sorry state of talk radio nationwide than these particular stations. They are playing to the available audience, by ramping up fears, bloviating non-stop about tea parties and other manufactured outrage. It's more about tapping into the resentments of these listeners than furthering any reasonable discourse or discussion.
And with the corporations that own these stations cutting their staffs to the bone and losing more local shows...don't expect anything to change in the short term.

What stories do KRDO make up? I think you are the one making up stories! Prove it.
