KILO tops Arbitrons... for the last time?

KILO (94.3 FM) won its fifth straight book in the Arbitron radio ratings. The question becomes: How big a bite does KDZA's switch take out of the top dog?

OK, so the top of the list is same-old, same-old. The rest of the top 10 is kinda weird. KVOR No. 2 in a non-election book? KATC jumps to third? The old KDZA goes out with a bang at 4? KKLI falls all the way to 9?

It's not much clearer in the 25-54 numbers, either, with KILO followed by KKFM, then KATC, then KKPK and so on.

If you've got a theory other than "Arbitrons are whacky," feel free to throw it out.

And, by the way, I'm back from a baby shower in Seattle followed by a really exhausting move in town. Scraping wallpaper sucks.

Andy, I drop by your blog to catch up on local media rumors and related stuff. Admittedly, radio is not a biggie to me much beyond conservative talk radio to keep up on the deterioration of our great nation. Since the loss of Power 88 to Mooney Radio, I've pretty much lost interest in radio and contemporary Christian radio. Once in a while I hit the button for Pueblo's 1350 AM for a few minutes of an oldie, but not much. I'm pretty much a news junkie any more so TV news or radio news while on the go is most of my listening time. BTW, my work schedule requires me to be up at 0430 Weds-Sat so I'm catching national news, then local at 0500. Was shocked that yesterday was Jen Brown's last day with Zach on KRDO's GMC show. They can't seem to keep the ladies around their place. First Kellie, then Nina, now Jen. What's up with them? Realize it's a "fluid" business and people are always jockeying for exposure but they've lost some good ones. To me, especially trying to wake up at 0500, "eye candy" is vital, but of course they must also be competent and those ladies were, for sure. Thanks for being there. Just wanted to sound off a bit, from rural Pueblo West.

That's not the only change coming to GMC....

Oh, oh. Anonymous, that sounds ominous. Imagine you may have an inside track. Hope it's not too drastic, though that often happens. Guess we'll have to live with it. As long as they have a competent "lovely" on the forefront...unless they stop it altogether....GASP! Perish the thought!

What about radio ratings. KRDO is #1 on the radio too! Awesome job!

Huh?

KRDO radio is #1 in the mornings. They have a commercial on tv saying so.

OK, you made me go back and look again: KRDO is the No. 1 news station 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. in 25-54. Eighth overall in that time/demo. That is a pretty good accomplishment.

I have heard no rumors about what's coming for GMC, but I'd love to hear them.

If you're 8th, you're 8th and you're not #1. It's a claim with three layers of qualification - 1st in a demo, within a specific category, for the morning time period. But instead of saying "we beat the other news station(s) in listeners between the ages of 25 and 54," they say "we're #1 on the radio." It's an uncomfortable stretch from the truth to the claim.

What happened to Grace Polanski?

Yes, Grace is another who suddenly disappeared. Your mention of her reminded me I used to joke about her and Stephanie Pytlinski being Channel 21's "Polish News Network" meaning no disrespect to the ladies. Both are competent news anchors. I grew up in a "melting pot" back east amongst many Slovenian folk. Good people.

Glad to see Vida Urbonas come alongside Zach on GMC. Another competent, lovely and confident news anchor. But who will replace her on weekends? Hmmm.
