Here's a report card on the first show:
Anchors: B
A few glitches, but Joe Cole and Stephanie Pytlinski picked up like they'd never taken that year-long break.
Reporters: B-
More glitches here which proved distracting from their stories.
Weather: A
Smooth. Terry promises there will be more bells and whistles to come.
Sports: Incomplete
We'll see how the no-anchor system works on a big sports night.
Graphics: C+
I didn't see any major problems, but I didn't love the design.
Set: B
Better, but I think KRDO got more mileage out of their new backdrop.
Editorial decisions: B
I think they hit the important stories. I think the biggies could have been more front-loaded in the hour newscast. I also wonder if they shouldn't have popped in a longer investigative or enterprise piece just to show off what's possible with an extra half hour of airtime.
Overall: B
Making it through the first newscast with no serious technical issues and no embarassing lapses must feel pretty good after all the work they've put in over the last few months. Definitely some stuff to work on, but it felt credible to me. The true test will come when a big story breaks and Fox has to go head-to-head against the other guys.

my idea.. anchors joe cole and steph c+. joe got fat,didnt know what set he was on. steph hmm dont know . weather AAA++ great, terry good job there..the sony tv studio cams and tv sets crappy and small to get around!!E.n.g equipment??WHAT ??panasonic p2 A MESS. too small a format and out of focus on some shots..and no sports guy. ANALYSIS..BORING >>IM going to watch kktv or kwgn cw2 . got to wait unitl ms polanski gets in there from fox 31 in denver for the weekend .overall ill watch kk or cw 2..sorry mr dant. my opinion.
I did not like the audio, from breaks and from stories. Since the system is automated, there is a hard out, no crossfade, which it really needs. I thought joe was a boar, Steph did great as usual. Terry was great. Not real big on Polanski, though. The chroma key needs to be clipped a bit better. There was not much local news in the beginning. Not bad for day 1.
i hope that kxrm tv will get a live truck soon.
KXRM has a live truck. It is the white jeep. No mast antenna, they use a clip-on antenna which limits range though.
Their first show was better than many seen on KRDO every night. They should have no problem becoming number 3 pretty quickly. Then number 2?
oh okay, they did great with terry new weather computer.better than kktv. but the studio on wooten will that be a hinderance to getting to the scenes??im not too hot with their panasonic "p2" models with 13:1 zoom lenses.i hope that they will come up with better although the color was great.
Stephanie and Joe were professional, smooth and make a great team in my opinion. So glad Joe is finally back. We missed him and the stability and sharp edge he brings to the newscast. I can only say that it must have been really tough to completely start a station in a new building with new cameras, staff, equipment, computers etc. and after reading the Gazette article, it sounds like Fox was dealing with some issues out of their control. I think they did a FABULOUS job for their first night and I can't wait to see what's to come. With their "first" show under their belt, they can only get better from here. Kudos to the management and new team at Fox.
So now we know what people working at the other stations think. Bitter. Bitter. Bitter. Attack. Attack. Attack. Is everyone in TV so hateful? For only having 2 months to put a show together I thought it was pretty darn good.
Can't wait to see more. I love Fox's anchors. Young and hip in my opinion.
yes, i agree.but joe was kind of "off" there. i guess being out of touch when he was at d20.the set was kind of small but they will get used to it.But what will they (other tv stations) will think about the new fox21??especially the news leader 5/30?? they still need to get a sports guy soon.
Give them a week or two and I would guess they'll be humming along. That team hasn't worked together in over a year. I'm guessing they'll sharpen up. Glad to everyone back and I like all the new people.
i agree, itll take time..these newbies at fox 21. should be on the ball hitting and scoring. im surprised at the amount of resumes that they got . i cant even get my resumes in tv jobs in that field. ive put in to every tv station here and in the midwest. count those newbies lucky! now if they can get a sat truck later on??
Wow. The first comment. Joe got fat. Have you ever met Joe? He's no where close to being fat. Odd comment. Did he not hire you? I think Terry is boring. Steph still Steph. They still have some work to do but not a horrible show.
No sports coverage of local teams? That won't be acceptable. Guess I'll wait til 10 for that. Anyone notice that you could see the top of the set about 3/4 thru the broadcast?
okay???well. i just want to say this without hurting someone feelings on the "blog". i would like to see more handi capable people on most or not all of the tv stations including the new fox 21 if possible.i take that stand because in fact i dont see anyone like that here.and being j cole being fat okay so i goofed must be the new sony tv cam that they bought. why cant fox21 have a real production crew there instead of robotic cold tv cams??they will pay people money locally instead of a cold cruel machine ..i would like to meet this jcole, he must be a friendly guy from what i heard about people around town. also i wish that comcast would fix my kktv channel 141..
