Serial killer coverage

Some interesting coverage of the press conference today announcing the killer of Heather Dawn Church is actually a serial killer who may be responsible for dozens of other murders.

All three of the locals broke in to cover the announcement. KRDO broke away first, then KKTV -- and KOAA stayed all the way through.

On a less serious note, the radio Arbitron ratings came out today. KCCY (96.9 FM) was on top again -- but this book didn't include the new "Cat Country" KATC (95.1 FM). With "The Peak" -- KATC's old incarnation -- gone, it promises to help KVUU (99.9 FM) and KSKX (105.5 FM) switching to news from smooth jazz, it should help KKLI (106.3 FM).
In other words, the next book promises to be more interesting than this one.

And another Meister note: KRDO news director Dave Rose said he's gotten hundreds of calls and e-mails and virtually all of them have said "This was a terrible thing. It should never have happened and don't fire Matt." He expect general manager Neil Klockziem to make a decision on Meister in the next day or so.

They'll probably choose to keep him on for a while, until they get the bill from the FCC.

Regarding KKLI they allready have KSPZ breathing down their necks.

KSPZ since Fall of last year has moved towards a Classic Hits direction that is keeping its Baby Boomer audience while adding more 70's and 80's. The Baby Boomers music is from around 1965-75. As always the radio station aims younger rather than older.

Why do you think KKLI does an all 70's format on the weekends??? The answer is none other than KSPZ. However expect those 70's Weekends to be put on a pit stop when the station goes all Christmas/Holiday once again. Also expect Christian AC KBIQ to fight for listeners at that time as well. KSPZ meanwhile will mix the Xmas music with its normal all year playlist.

KKLI's normal music mix is getting a bit Hotter, but it will play 70's gold which KVUU aka My 999 will not play. AC radio is not as soft as it was in the 80's and 90's.

In fact KSPZ today sounds more/less what KVUU sounded like back in the 1980's

I almost forget. KSPZ has this music mix more/less when it was known as Z93

I hate to see it SAX go too, but Smooth Jazz has a small audience and on top of that the audience gets older. I just don't see a younger audience getting into the format. Smooth Jazz as a radio format is on life support.

I can't wait to see the new News/Talk format that NewsPress & Gazette has come up with.

At least you will finally see a stronger news product when it comes to KRDO. For so many years under the Hoth's the news suffered and KOAA and KKTV were able to captilize on it when they had a product that was better than KRDO. NPG is going to use its tools to promote its news and win.

As for KKCS its DONE!!! Sad.

KATC-FM allready picked up the shows that KKCS carried, including the veteran broadcaster Bob Kingsley and his countdown program.
