KXRM adding morning newscast
Local Fox affiliate KXRM/Channel 21 announced that it would start a three-hour morning news show beginning Aug. 6.
News director Joe Cole said the new program would run from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. — the other local morning news shows switch to network news at 7 a.m.
“It’s a chance for us to become more of a news player in the market,” Cole said. “We do hope to provide somewhat of a different feel, especially in those last two hours.”
KXRM will hire two news anchors, a weather forecaster, a reporter, two producers and an editor to staff the new show.
“As long as we get some good journalists in the building, I don’t think we’ll have a problem,” Cole said. “I’m pretty proud of what we do at 9 p.m.”
KXRM launched its own news department last fall, taking over the 9 p.m. broadcast that had been produced by KKTV/Channel 11, hiring a staff and building a studio.
The Fox network produces its own national morning show, but KXRM doesn’t plan to add that program.

What they really need is better audio equipment. their newscast sounds as if it is broadcast from a coffee can.
Couldn't agree more. And if you're watching them Fox in HD, their volume is excruciatingly louder then the volume of the HD broadcast. I have to turn down the volume in order to not have my ears bleed.
Oh, and it STILL looks like they're shooting their news broadcasts out of someone's garage. The visual quality is horrific.
Which is a shame since my wife and I watch the 9pm newscast every night.
Rest assured both issues are being worked on.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the new morning show brings. The 9:00 show looks just as good as the other stations in HD (haven't all the stations had trouble with HD?). I really like Fox's facts first thing and the 360 thing too.
eli....the visual looks bad to you...the audio sounds bad to you...then why do you watch???? it doesn't take a rocket scientest to know that if you don't like something or it irritates you, you avoid it!
Well, the audio is messed up. I think they've made strides with the visuals -- when they first signed on, Joe and Steph looked like they'd just been pulled out of the morgue cooler.
I think it's a pretty good news program at this point. My complaint as a viewer is that they pace it very deliberately to spread stuff through the hour. I'd rather at least have the option of getting the headlines and getting out -- although that's obviously not in the station's best interest.
Hey Anonymous... if that's really your name... the reason we watch Fox is because we like Joe Cole and Steph. And we're asleep by 10pm when all the other networks have their news. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
