Rockies vs. Red Sox ratings
We'll find out soon which is the better team on the field, but in the TV ratings, the Red Sox absolutely spanked the Rockies.
Game 7 of the Boston-Cleveland series drew 19.15 million viewers and came in third place in the broadcast Nielsens.
Meanwhile, Game 4 of the Colorado-Arizona series drew an underwhelming 3.8 million viewers for TBS, good for 12th place among cable programs - and one spot behind a 9:30 a.m. repeat of "SpongeBob SquarePants." For cryingoutloud.
Cable attracts smaller audiences and the Sox-Indians series was more dramatic and yaddayaddayadda, but it's still pretty good evidence that the rest of America just isn't that interested in a little old baseball team from Denver.
Going back a week, the best-rated game of the Rockies-Diamondbacks series (Game 1) drew 5.3 million viewers, which actually beat an episode of "Hannah Montana." Meanwhile, the lowest-rated game of the Red Sox-Indians series - Game 1 - drew 7.4 million viewers. The lowest-rated Rockies-Diamondbacks? Game 2 - 3.3 million.
By comparison, Game 4 of the Indians-Yankees series drew 9.2 million.

Too bad there's not way to show what the games did or will do locally. Without question they will be much much higher, it's all anyone is talking about.
Denver has overnight ratings, but I haven't seen any numbers from KTVD up there. We'll probably get some as the series progresses.
The interest is certainly there. I'm sure the only reason the Rockies-Diamondbacks got even 5 million viewers is that a million people in Denver and a million more in Phoenix were watching, plus 3 million die-hard baseball fans scattered around the country.
BOOO on the rockies. i watch the tv and the only thing that i can think of that how did the red sox come up with those runs..go to take that rockies pitcher out!!and try again on day#2..if that doesnt work . then i have to say some body there took a fall..Go rockies!!!watch out for the riot there when they win..im in shock...
The most likely reason the NLCS did so horrible in the ratings may be because it was on cable (TBS), not on broadcast TV. Don't forget, there is a significant percentage of TV viewers that don't have cable. The Rockies/Diamondbacks could have easily doubled its ratings if it were on Fox instead of TBS.

Cable had something to do with it and the late starts for the NLCS had something to do with it - but far from everything. Look at that first ALCS game - 7.8 million? Then, once the series heated up, those numbers doubled. If the Colorado-Arizona series had been competitive, would it have drawn 10, 12, 15 million? I'd guess not - neither team has a national fan base and they're both smaller cities.

National ratings for game #1 of the World Series were up 31% vs. last year. Boston had a 49.3 rating / 70 share while Denver had a 39 rating / 55 share.
Interesting stuff. I'd love to see next Monday's breakdown when the Broncos and the Rockies going head-to-head.
I'm more than a little surprised the Denver numbers aren't higher.
Yeah, the Red Sox have loyal fans, but they've been to the mountaintop before, not to mention that the Patriots are doing a little better than the Broncos this year.
ill say it again . rockies lost 2 games. where is the big riot on the streets of denver town????if they cantt win a game soon. ill go for the cubbies next year...
