Whither jazz?

I've probably had 50 calls and e-mails from Sax fans now, wondering where they can find more jazz. Not much I can tell them, of course, except for KCME's weekend jazz programs and the stuff available over the Internet.

I wonder if another station will make the switch. It's not a huge audience, but it's loyal and there's a 1.7 rating waiting to be picked up -- which is better than some stations get.

This should be reason enough for any one of those lower rated stations to make the move. That is if their management has the brains, guts, and clout to make a decision like that. But most would probably rather play it safe and stick with a steady and known group like they now have. Life is too short, they should take the chance and make the jump!

KJCD 104.3 FM out of Denver broadcasts a Smooth Jazz format.

KOSI is more like KKLI

KRCC does Jazz Weeknights.

However both stations do "Real Jazz" not Smooth Jazz

KRCC 91.5 plays jazz every weeknight from 7 to 10. Good jazz too, not the elevator music garbage that used to be on 105.5.

Sorry, forgot about KRCC. I'm not listening at that time of night.

And that "elevator music" is what all the people calling me want.

Yes Andy the young people do call Smooth Jazz elevator music. Peter White, Kenny G, etc are in the same group as Percy Faith, 101 Strings. The later group the young people don't remember.

Notice why KKLI and KOSI out of Denver and playing music that is not as lite. They want to have an appeal to younger listeners.

In reality Smooth Jazz is closer to Soul/R&B and Pop music. Without Jazz we would not have Rock and Modern Pop.
