Summertime blues

A commenter in the previous thread asked me if I was on vacation. I wish. There's just bupkus going on in TV right now. It's so massively boring.

I go home at night and find washing the dishes to be more entertaining than the TV.

I tried to watch "Burn Notice's" season premiere last night, but I knew the entire plot after watching about 15 seconds. I think they borrowed it from the "A-Team."

Maybe if I had Showtime, I could be watching "Secret Diary of a Call Girl." They did send the first couple "Weeds" episodes, but those were fairly dull, too.

Now, the new season of "Top Gear" begins Monday on BBC America. That's exciting. But there's not a ton beyond that.

A lot of the current malaise is still strike-related. The usual round of misfits and reality shows and a smattering of quality cable shows that usually occupy the summer never got made.

Fortunately, the Olympics are a few weeks away and NBC is planning 2,500 hours of coverage. That should soak up some TV time. And after that, we'll be in football season...

Maybe you should ask 13 about their new promo with a viewer call. It's factually wrong. But I guess no one cares about facts over there. The county's new mouthpiece is 13. Do they know what honesty and journalism are?

Hmmm... Sounds like someone at 5/30 is a little upset that one of their viewers didn't get important information about the closure of I-25.

Also, how can it be factually wrong? It was a real viewer making the statement! I guess I should say FORMER 5/30 viewer.

Speaking of 5/30. Funny enough I see they're running a promo that shows their morning coverage of that accident you're talking about. I guess they're throwing it in 13's face that 13 is wrong. No wonder 5/30 is #1. They actually cover news and take the high road. What's 13 again? Oh yeah, the LEAST WATCHED STATION IN SOUTHERN COLORADO. I guess 13 figures "We might as well lie, we don't have anything else to lose."

andy you nailed it...even these two nutjobs above me are BORING in their insults..who CARES--YAWNNNNN--as for the actual topic andy brought up--tv is in the doldrums right now , no doubt..GENERATION KILL though on HBO is getting great reviews so that should be interesting(question is will anyone watch because of IRAQ fatigue?)MAD MEN is coming back this month..but other than that..the reality shows are awful-even AMERICA's GOT TALENT seems like the "B" team is producing--it just seems sloppy and badly edited. COME ON FALL!!!!!

You morons it was a viewer who made the comments in the promo. It is OPINON! How can that be factually wrong? Also, the 5/30 promo, isn't it interesting they didn't show real-time video of the accident in the promo?

All they had was Craig at the weather wall and the anchor team announces the closure. All the traffic video was shot later and just added into the promo.

Isn't your job as a journalist to try to weed out factual errors? Even if it was a viewer comment, if it was wrong and you know it's wrong, why would you put it on the air?

It's called perception is reality. For that viewer, the perception was two stations didn't cover the accident. So it became reality to that viewer because they couldn't find the information from them. I could care less about who had it, because I was one of those viewers who also did not see or hear it on 5/30, so in effect, it was my reality as well. Now take a shot at me as well.
Sincerely,
Kelly Heying

OK Kelly,

If your skirt was stuck in your underwear, but you perceived it wasn't, does that mean it isn't?

If I'm your friend shouldn't I tell you it's stuck? Shouldn't I bring the reality of the situation to your attention to make your perception reflect reality?

John's right.

13 should've corrected the misperception, not perpetuated it.

I also agree with John. I think it's in bad taste to just put something out there that isn't true. It says alot about how they operate.

what an inane discussion...skirts stuck in underwear? viewers perceptions of reality? and how can something be "factually wrong" ?? it is either a FACT (something known to exist) or it is WRONG...it cannot be both things..now i will quietly go and hope the level of discussion comes up a bit...

You're right about "Burn Notice" It's supposed to be mindless entertainment, but that's what makes the show fun,, especially the character Fiona is every mans dream, a woman that can take care of herself

Is NBC suprised about the success of the show,"America's got talent" and any chance of it becoming a fall show?
